It's because George was inspired by Cars, J.J. is inspired by Toys.
The original speeder was your parent's sedan, the X-Wing was a Muscle Car, the Falcon was a hot rod, the Star Destroyer was a giant luxury limo, the Tie Fighter was a Chevy Vega, etc.
Now, however, J. J. is eschewing mechanical principles for fantasy-like toys that don't have to make sense, just look childish. In fact, I'd say they are deliberately nonsensical in a way that some toy company seeking the next big craze puts out silly attempts to spin off well-known toys.

well JJ sucks, And i differ on the Xwing. I always thought it was an F1 car. Even more in the new trailer when they are leaving a trace of spray with the water from the lake

What isn't to like about slapping the biggest engine in a tiny package? I'll warrant that this thing would waste the endor speeder in a straight line.
